On Monday I created more colour experiments and chose the ones in which I wanted to use for my final design. I then coloured in my outlines, making sure it was clean, smooth and not rushing through it. Once I was happy with all of the colours I decided to save the design and show it to my friends outside of college to get an outsiders perspective on my work. As they knew nothing of my theme or what I wanted my work to achieve, their opinion would be purely based on the appearance of my work. They said:
For the rest of the week I need to:
Its something that I know I keep putting off, but it is getting done, slowly but surely. I have currently written a summary about all of the companies, but I have only written about 6/24 examples so far. Over the weekend I will solely concentrate on this, making sure I have it done by Sunday the 9th!
- "I love it, but the coral doesn't really fit"
- "The coral doesn't really work well, I feel it clashes and takes away from the woman's dress"
- "The pitchfork kind of blends with everything else, I didn't really notice it"
- "You could try replacing the coral with more of the bigger fish"
With all of these suggestions I did try making a few changes, for instants by replacing the coral with fish or just leaving the space empty.
Today, I decided to email my original design to my tutor asking for his opinion, if there were any areas in which I could improve, he replied that he preferred the image with coral but that he agree'd it didn't look right so he suggested that it needed more form. He also suggested that I should make my lighter silhouetted fish darker, as they should be in the mid ground of the image yet they looked as if they were trying to be part of the foreground.
From these further suggestions, I first changed the colours of the silhouetted fish then started working with the coral again. This time I found an image in which I could use to replicate the realistic shape of coral. I started drawing over this image, again using the colours from the woman's dress. Once I got the shape and the shading done, I thought it still looked a bit out of place so I decided to try putting a gradient overlay over the top of the layer to make it look more apart of the oceanic surroundings. Surprisingly, this actually seemed to work, and I do feel the coral sits well amongst the design.
Although I am still waiting for my tutors response to this new design, I have shown it to my friends again and they all agree that it looks so much better, that the coral "actually looks like coral now".
For the rest of the week I need to:
- Have a small group critique with my table at college
- Make any improvements that they may suggest
- Print out all of my development so far
- Take primary photos for my second idea and print them out
- Start getting to work on my second idea
- And I've got to FINISH MY ARTISTS!
