What I did
In this project I have experimented with multiple mediums and played around with new types of printing techniques which I could find very valuable in future projects. I have worked with lino, polyfoam, screen printing, I've learnt how to work with the vinyl cutter and I have learnt how to create and send files in which the laser cutter, or even the CNC machine, will cut out or etch huge designs into a 3D medium i.e. card, wood, etc.
As this project was 2 briefs combined into one, I have also created client based designs which would be directed towards more of a younger based audience and would be able to work inside of the space we were given, the Live Tales building. This is where the techniques we have learnt, for instance how to use the vinyl cutter, and the laser cutter/CNC machine, will be put into use, if our designs do get chosen by the company.
Strengths
I felt I had a lot of strengths during this project, I feel from my experience, I have learnt to create designs which are more specific to the type of medium. As an example, I would never again create a design with as many finer details for the vinyl cutter/screen printing, as I found it was a very tedious process because the smaller areas would always come away first.
In this project I also feel I've became more confident in creating illustrations with just two colours, I feel theses designs are very clean and bold and do stand out quite a lot, so I wish to work in this style more often in the future.
With the Live Tales section of this project, I have also became more confident when working towards clients briefs and their target audience. By creating multiple options that the clients can choose from, I feel I am more happier to present my ideas and concepts to the clients, as I feel there is more range, so there is less chance they will say no to all of my designs, even though they still can.
Weaknesses
I felt my biggest weakness during this project was working in a group, I didn't necessarily struggle with this, but I feel my group didn't communicate as well as others had. In my group, it felt as if we had all just worked on our designs individually, and when it came to presenting, we just threw all of our work together and hoped for the best. With the loss of two members in our group, I felt it did not leave me and the remaining member looking very professional, but as it was only the two of us, and we both had known each other for a long time, I felt our presentation had flown more and our work had looked more together, than if we had presented with all four members.
I did not resent the other two members in any way, I understood that people have different situations going on at home, and they don't/won't always have the same amount of time as I do, to work on college projects.
Future Improvements
Like I mentioned before, I did not have the best experience with screen printing, so I do want to try it again, but next time I will attempt to create something with less finer details, so that it will be less of a tedious job when applying the vinyl to the screen.
I will be using laser cut and lino printing again in the future as the outcomes had turned out so well during this project. With the lino, I do want to try improving the method by using multiple colours and adding more details, I feel this would add more interest to the designs and will hopefully will make my deigns even more appealing to the eyes.
From this project, I feel I've gained more confidence in presenting my work and concepts to others, this is something that I feel will help in future, especially if I start to move my artwork into more of a work based environment, and I start to present my work to more clients once again.
